Onion Browser, Tor Browser for iOS goes free

Recently a Tor browser app on iTunes store also went free making it easier to browse through the Tor network in your iOS device.

Tor project is an initiative to anonymize internet activity through tunnelling the connection through other computers in the network known as “exit nodes”. Once you are connected through the Tor network, your internet activity appears to be from a different location where your “exit node” is located. The connection is assumed to be secure if you follow proper attention to what you use on this network. Some plugins and applications will reveal your location.

Onion Browser is the original open-source Tor-powered browser for iOS. Onion Browser helps you bypass censorship and access the internet with more safety and privacy.

FEATURES:
• Browse the internet over Tor:
– Websites do not see your real IP address.
– ISPs and insecure wireless networks cannot track your browsing.
– Access .onion sites that are only accessible over Tor.

• Defeat internet filters and censors with “obfs4” & “meek” traffic masking.

• Fight online tracking: use a new IP address and clear your cookies/history/cache in one button.

• And more privacy-enhancing features!

This app used to be a paid app just last week. But with support from the Guardian Project, the app was made free with it’s latest update.

So if you are curious about Tor browser, your privacy or just want to browse securely on open wifi networks, This is your app for it. But also remember that as the internet connection is tunneled through relays in the Tor network, the connection may be slower that you will expect without the tor network. Also, the tor browser only relays your browser request through the Tor network and not every connection through every app on your iPhone or iPad.

It worked perfectly for me with the usual slow speed of Tor networks. Remember there are ways for your ISP to block access to Tor, so it might not be best to blame the app. Let us know how it goes.
