Google buys Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion

Google buys Motorola Mobility for @12.5 billion from Motorola and plans to use the combination to protect Android from patent attacks.

Google has acquired Motorola Mobility for 12.5 billion dollars from Motorola and plans to use the combination to protect Android from patent attacks from Apple and Microsoft. Motorola holds more than 14,600 granted patents and 6,700 pending patent applications, worldwide which will help Google raise the competition higher.

Google has been fighting with Apple and Microsoft for patent attacks which are used against the open source Android to make Google pay for them. Motorola is one of the founding members of Open Handset Alliance which helped make Android a open source mobile platform. Motorola also has been using Android as its operating system for Smart Phones since 2007.

So this acquisition is deemed to help the Google and Android raise the stakes against Apple and Microsoft in the battle for supremacy in Smart Phone Industry.
