Wappalyzer is an add-on for Firefox and Chrome that allows you to detect Content Management Systems (CMS), Web Server, Programming Language at work on the site.

Wappalyzer is an add-on for Firefox and Chrome that allows you to detect Content Management Systems (CMS), Web Server, CDN, Programming Language, JavaScript frameworks and analytic scripts at work on the site.

Hackers begin by gathering information on a server before they start looking for exploits and vulnerability and security starts with how much information about your site and server is available to the public and how you can limit them. In that sense, the Wappalyzer add-on helps both side of the computing world.

Wappalyzer allows you to customize the detection methods on its preference menu so you can choose filters as to which categories are to be detected. And also allows you to customize the interface as to where the detection is shown and also configure performance options.

As this allows you to view the info about what is used to build your site, Hackers can use this info to use specific exploits to your site. You as a programmer or web master, can also try and use it to hide your CMS increasing security of your site to some level.
