BrowserID : A new way to login

By | 15th July, 2011 | 0 Comments

There are numerous ways to login to a site these days, you can use your email, username, OpenID or even with your social network logins like facebook and twitter but there’s a new experimental way to login being developed. And its called BrowserID from Identity team at Mozilla.

If you are guessing that this has something to do with your browser, then you are wrong. This might be in the future as its still on a experimental phase. But for now this is a web service where you can add your email ids and then just sign in to any site using the BrowserID feature without the need to start the whole signup and confirm your email id process.

You as users are able to add multiple emails on your browserID account with a verification of the email address and as you browse through sites that support browserID login your are shown a browserID popup for an option to choose and email address to use in the site. Privacy is maintained so that your information will not be leaked to any server.

As for developers it’s really too easy to implement the browserID to their sites as mentioned on the developers page at browserid.org developers page. Sites get proof of ownership using public key cryptography. It works on all modern browsers and mobile browsers as well.

And if you’d like to support with testing then file a bug report at the GitHub BrowserID Project page.

Here’s a quick preview of BrowserID.
